Veil Drinks Cabinet.

The Veil drinks cabinet was an exploratory design, produced for exhibition. It is a personal reflection concerning depression, anxiety and the crutch that alcohol can be for some people. It is inspired by a combination of my own experiences, and experiences felt by close family and friends.
The exterior of the cabinet is well presented, polished, and outwardly stunning, in the same way that we present ourselves to the world. The over accentuated doors act as a veil for the feelings held within.
There is a clear shift in the transition to the inside of the cabinet. Torched and blackened timber, and patinaed brass, are representative of internal struggles and clouded thoughts.

The cabinet is constructed of American Walnut with brass detailing. The façade is constructed from over 170 resawn walnut shingles, randomly laid to give an effect of mottled grain patterns.
The hinges for the cabinet stemmed from previous investigations shown in a previous piece, Section – 2016. Each hinge has been machined from a single brass bar and appears to function by near magic. They produce not only a visual delight and surprise, but also function exceptionally well
